Twelve Words. Keep Them Yours.
Your recovery phrase is the backup for your wallet. Keep it private, store it safely, and have it ready if you ever need to start again.
A phrase only you hold
Your wallet generates a recovery phrase on your device.
Illustration only. No wallet data is used.
Keep a recovery copy.
Do this inside the Aura app. This website never asks for your phrase or password.
- 01
Create your wallet
Aura generates your phrase on your device when you create a wallet. Take the time to record each word in the order shown.
- 02
Keep a private copy
Write the words down and check the order carefully. Store your copy somewhere secure, away from cameras and other people.
- 03
Restore when needed
Choose the restore option in the Aura app and enter your phrase there. Check your wallet addresses after restoring.
Keep it offline.
Anyone with your recovery phrase can access your wallet. Avoid screenshots, messages and ordinary cloud notes. A private, secure offline copy keeps it out of those places.
No support agent needs these words. If someone asks for them, stop the conversation. Only enter your phrase in a trusted wallet app when restoring.
A few things worth knowing.
Is my phrase the same as my passcode?
No. Your passcode protects access on your device. Your recovery phrase restores the wallet and must be kept private even from people who know your passcode.
Can Aura recover my phrase?
Aura does not have a copy. If you lose it, check whether you have an encrypted cloud backup or can still export the phrase from your unlocked wallet.
Can I use another wallet app?
Compatible wallet apps can import a standard recovery phrase. Supported networks and derivation paths can differ, so check that the restored addresses match before using the wallet.
What if someone has seen my phrase?
Treat the wallet as compromised. Create a new wallet with a new phrase on a trusted device and move your remaining assets. Changing the passcode does not change the wallet keys.
Set it up before you need it.
Keep a recovery copy ready for your next device.
